Capital Lakefair

#GRGStory

Talk to anyone who has spent some time in the community and they are sure to have a story about Lakefair.

The week has come where Capital Lake transforms from the downtown park to the weeklong carnival. Since 1957 Lakefair has been a staple of summer in the south sound. Over the years it has seen some changes, but much of what Lakefair began with has stayed the same.

From the parade, the rides, music, food, and fireworks there is really something for everyone to enjoy. Originally modeled after Seattle’s Seafair, Lakefair was created to celebrate the waterfront and bring people downtown. In the early year's the parade consisted of boats being towed by a car rather than any parade floats that you might see today.

This year Lakefair will feature its annual Battle of the Bands, Volleyball Tournament, Car Show, the Lakefair Run, and new this year, a 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. Talk to anyone who has spent some time in the community and they are sure to have a story about Lakefair; whether it's catching up with old friends, spending time on docks, and seeing the boats, grabbing a Demo Burger or an Elephant Ear, enjoying the rides, or just making it out for the Fireworks on Sunday evening. Lakefair represents the best parts of our community and promoting goodwill for downtown and the south sound region.
